CONSUMPTION: artistic capital and culinary innovation to shift economic power

April 30, 2016
4:20pm  -  4:35pm
High Bay Gallery, Great Hall — Level 2

CONSUMPTION explores the role of artistic capital in economic power dynamics within blighted urban neighborhoods undergoing development and gentrification. The presenters will introduce a model that couples economical exchange with artistic engagement to shift the socio-economic dynamics between the powerful and powerless within the context of the project CONSUMPTION, and its subproject, Kitchen of Corrections, a pop-up restaurant that seeks to correct the perceptions of the incarcerated, raise awareness of the harsh realities of prison, and build a movement through food and storytelling.
